Taza is classified as an Ungrouped Plessitic Octahedrite iron meteorite and is officially known as NWA 859. It was originally discovered in Morocco in 2001 and hundreds of very small individuals have been unearthed since. With the use of metal detectors and a desire to hunt for meteorites, dozens of nomads and Moroccan dealers have descended on the strewnfield from 2010-2012 and have recovered several medium to large-sized individuals.

In just a short time frame the strewnfield was defined and worked out with relatively no new discovereies since late 2012. All of the prime specimens have been purchased immediately and reside in private collections. Among the variety sizes and shapes, individuals with exceptional sculptural beauty have been found!
